New manager Patrick Royal and his assistant Dan Reading got their first three points of their reign in a cagey affair at Keynsham's AJN stadium, writes Dave Morgan.

On a cold, bleak afternoon in Keynsham, Nailsea lined up in a 4-3-3 formation with Ryan Cook, the stand-in keeper, in goal, with a back four of Charlie Oates, Harry Summerhill, Jaylan Mogg, and Patrick Riddell captaining the side.

The midfield consisted of playmaker Brandon Hurst, Scott Pilgrim, and the experienced James Seeley (MOM) with a front three of Jaden Neale, Harvey Conroy, and Jack Godfrey.

In a first half with not many chances and neither keeper really tested, the game was a battle in midfield which Nailsea were starting to dominate.

The best chance of the first half came when full back Oates overlapped Neale and got to the byline, and his cut back landed at the feet of Neale, who dragged his shot wide (0-0 HT).

After a half-time team talk, the Swags came out with all guns blazing and started to get a lot more chances.

The deadlock was broken midway through the second half when a free kick was awarded on the right, which was delivered on a sixpence from Hurst for Seeley to smash home his first goal for a long time, so I’m told.

A change in the defence for Nailsea, as Mogg was struggling and replaced by Callum Parsons, who was very unlucky not to start himself but gave the managers a real headache after bursting forward and after a bit of ping pong in the box, tapping home the second from six yards and gave Nailsea a bit of breathing space.

The experience of Dan Cook came on in a tactical change to shore up the already strong back line.

The game petered out after that and the back four of Nailsea and the keeper stood firm after a late onslaught from Keynsham.

A crucial three points for the Swags as they look to continue their winning ways next Saturday, away to Imperial FC, 2pm kick-off.

Swags 1st team's next league game is at home Saturday against AFC St Austell, 3pm kick-off.
