Yatton Colts delivered their best performance of the season to date in their home win over North Petherton.
They were determined to display progress since a heavy defeat to the same opposition at the start of the season.
It started on a familiar note for Yatton as they conceded very early.
However, they quickly regrouped and launched a series of aggressive attacks, showcasing their improved gameplay.
Despite some loose passes, the overall play was more assertive, and the home side seemed unfazed when recovering the ball.
The team's defence was notably stronger, particularly on their goal line, as they consistently repelled North Petherton’s big strike runners.
Several Yatton players, including second row Danny Fogg, flanker Flynn Cootes, fullback Charlie Vickery, and winger Matt Lane, stood out, delivering their best performances of the season.
Yatton’s first try came from a well-executed lineout, with the ball swiftly moved to no.8 Freddie Mundell, who, after a robust run, made a great inside pass to centre Sam Tyas.
Tyas then nimbly navigated through the North Petherton defence to score near the posts.
Mundell, having his best day in a Yatton shirt, went on to score the next two tries.
The first came from an attacking Yatton line when he gathered a loose ball to break through the defence, and the second was a pickup from the base of the scrum just inside the Yatton half, where he displayed his speed and strength to go the distance.
The visitors managed to score a try with the last play of the half, after repeatedly attacking Yatton’s solid defence.
The score at halftime stood at Yatton 21, North Petherton 12.
In the second half, despite playing uphill, Yatton seemed to grow stronger.
After some initial vigorous defending, Yatton capitalised on a North Petherton kick to chase from a defending lineout.
Vickery returned the kick with some impressive handling, leading to centre Charlie Wyatt executing a superb show and go to release Tyas up the wing to score his second try.
For about 20 minutes, both teams engaged in a back-and-forth exchange of attacks and counter-attacks.
Yatton showcased some excellent running rugby, consistently moving the ball wide with flair.
Though not every pass was perfect, the team quickly moved past any errors and continued to play with high intensity.
Yatton sealed their victory with two more scores in the last 10 minutes of the game, bringing the final score to Yatton 38, North Petherton 12.
