Somerset County Cricket Club Batting & Assistant Coach, Shane Burger has signed a contract extension that will see him remain at the Cooper Associates County Ground until at least the end of the 2026 campaign.
The 42-year-old joined Somerset ahead of the 2023 season from Cricket Scotland, where he had been Head Coach since 2019.
After extending his stay with Somerset, Shane said: “First and foremost, I am really excited to have been given the opportunity to extend my contract. I’d like to thank the Club for having faith and investing in me.
“I really enjoy being with this group and there’s a tremendous amount of depth within the squad. There is a constant stream of batting talent being transitioned through the Pathway and into the Second XI, and part of my job is to make sure that this group as well as the current playing group are well equipped to perform and handle the pressures of the professional game.
“It is also integral that we produce players that can play for England. The Club is in a healthy place moving forward and we have made positive strides within the past two seasons. We look forward to continuing this work into the future.
“The Club has a rich history of producing results and producing really good young players. My drive and my passion is to ensure that continues.”
Somerset Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry is pleased the Club have retained Shane’s services.
“Shane has worked really effectively over the last few seasons to build really impactful relationships with both players and staff,” he said. “He has also grown his insight and awareness of the talent coming through the Pathway.
“He has worked tirelessly to nurture and develop the ability of our players, allowing them to move closer to reaching their full potential and we are delighted that he has extended his time with the Club and will be continuing to support and develop the player’s growth over the forthcoming years.”
