Portishead Town Ladies A team beat unbeaten top-of-the-league Old Down in the Somerset Women's County League Cup third round.
They showed remarkable determination and skill, especially in the first half when they caught their opponents off guard.
Old Down's goalkeeper kicks were expertly blocked by the forwards, and Immy McCaw's brilliant one-on-one challenge and precise knock into the lower left-hand corner took Portishead into the lead.
Despite Odd Down's efforts, Portishead's strong backline forced their strikers to take long shots.
The defensive team effectively dictated play, providing the young forwards with opportunities that resulted in some near-misses.
As the second half progressed, Odd Down intensified their efforts, eventually scoring an equaliser.
The 1-1 draw meant that both teams faced the prospect of a penalty shootout.
When the final whistle blew, players from both teams lined up to take their penalties.
Portishead emerged victorious with a 3-1 win on penalties, thanks to the composed and perfectly executed strikes from Abi Meredith, Kaylin Cheshire, and Gemma Burnham.
This victory secures Portishead's place in the next round of the competition, which features the final eight teams.
