It was not 'two times a charm' for Nailsea and District Croquet Club, as they tasted defeat in the South West Federation Short Croquet final.

Not only were they defending their win from last year, but also hosted the event.

Bath proved too good on the day as they emerged victorious.

Despite a sunny day and well-maintained lawns, Nailsea trailed by six games to two at lunchtime, with Paul Arbos securing both wins.

A comeback attempt after lunch saw only one more victory for Nailsea, achieved by Sue Burns.

Bath clinched the title with a final score of 13 games to 3.

Nailsea captain, Sue Burns, said: "We put up a good fight, but were beaten by a better side.

"Everyone enjoyed the competition over the season."

The club will now look to next year to reclaim their title.
