Stroke survivors in Nailsea have been getting active with bat and ball, cricket, and walking football at a new sports group.

Activities like these are helping them rebuild co-ordination skills, an ability often affected post-stroke.

The sports group, an offshoot of Nailsea Stroke Survivors club, shows the commitment and dedication of the survivors and their supporters.

Meeting every Monday, excluding bank holidays, at 1pm at the Scotch Horn Leisure Centre, the group is open to all stroke survivors, regardless of their recovery journey stage, age, or gender.

Notably, it was initiated by Lyndon Roberts, a stroke survivor, with the help of Sarah Luxton, another survivor, and her husband Will.

The trio, in collaboration with club lead Lori Rowsell, provides an inclusive and supportive platform for fellow survivors.

Ms Rowsell said: "Many of our club members have already benefited from joining the sports club and we will continue to recommend it to all.

"Good luck to Sarah and Will who are running it!"

Ms Luxton explained: "We practise bat and ball skills, throwing and catching, walking, balance, as well as cricket and walking football, and hones in on co-ordination skills through sport.

"It is accessible to all stroke survivors, and they can do as much or as little as they feel capable of."

Stroke survivor Keith Newton added: "I’ve always enjoyed anything sporty.

"There is something for everyone and I would encourage anyone interested to come along."
