Clevedon Town have moved a step closer to this season's FA Cup after a 4-1 win in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup.

The Seasiders bounced back from a 0-3 defeat at Shepton Mallet to secure a 4-1 win against Berks County from the Combined Counties Premier Division, at Ascot.

It appeared that Berks County were ill-prepared for their first ever game in the FA Cup, as well as their first game of their season.

Clevedon capitalised on this, establishing an early lead at the eight-minute mark thanks to a goal from Oscar Bridgman.

After receiving a pass from Alex Camm, he successfully outmanoeuvred keeper Sam Bersey.

By the 10-minute mark, the lead was doubled for Clevedon.

Harrison Kyte managed to overcome two defenders before confidently bypassing Bersey yet again.

Although Bersey managed to later stop a through ball, it fell directly to Henry Westlake, who unfortunately missed a long shot for what could have been their third goal.

Clevedon's keeper, James Dunn, successfully halted an attempted goal by Ellis Day, following a break from Berks County, before Clevedon were back on the attack with a shot from King leading to Bersey getting injured.

This showed that despite their early lead, the Seasiders were not growing complacent and were prepared to fight for their win.

Berks County did manage to find the back of the net, however, when their skipper Luke Hayden intercepted and redirected a low cross from Jake Dutton.

However, Clevedon swiftly retaliated.

Before the half-time whistle, Kyte managed to find the net once again, thanks to a clever pass from Alex Camm.

At half time, Clevedon were ahead 3-1, and they maintained this momentum into the second half.

Bridgman narrowly missed another opportunity, going just wide, as Clevedon continued their offensive dominance.

Their pressure paid off before the hour mark when Glen Hayer scored with a powerful header, courtesy of a corner from Cam Steer.

Clevedon controlled the remainder of the game, despite making five changes.

Berks County had a couple of half chances near the end, but they were successfully thwarted by Dunn and Callum Kingdon.

In the closing moments, Nicholson missed another goal, heading over from Brad Probert’s cross.

Nevertheless, Clevedon saw out the game with a comfortable 4-1 win, advancing to the Preliminary Round with their sights set on an away game in the next round against Amersham Town.
