Cleeve Cricket Club 2nds extended their lead at the top of the Division 8 West table after a huge win over Failand and Portbury CC.

The performance saw them record a thumping win by 10 wickets in a swift hour and a half.

Tom Baughan and James Boulton were top-performing players for Cleeve, each securing three wickets.

The team worked in unison with Dan Jones and skipper George Parsons to wrap up the opposing side's batting quickly.

Despite a light drizzle, the match was finished by 2.30pm.

Upon asking Backwell to bat first, it quickly became apparent that the pace from Baughan and Boulton was hard to handle, leading to a rapid loss of wickets from the start.

Additionally, Ben Morris aided with a commendable deep mid-off catch to remove Krisman for 13, who was just one of two players from Backwell to clinch double figures.

Cleeve's broad victory came with a full 20 points, pushing their lead to 27 points.

This victory brings the team one step further away from Old Cathedralians, who also won and currently hold the second place on the table.

Cleeve's 1st team were also in action against Frenchay.

However, persistent heavy rain led to the match being abandoned after just 12.3 overs.

With each side leaving with six points, neither moved from their respective league positions in the Senior Division.

For their next match, Cleeve will host the Coalpit Heath 1st team.

Coming off of this significant win, they're eager to keep the momentum going.

Meanwhile, the 2nds will be travelling to Bristol CC 4ths with hopes to further extend their lead at the top of the Division 8 West table.
