Clevedon CC had a weekend of mixed results this week as the 1st XI lost by 89 runs at home to Downend CC but both the 2nd and 3rd XI recording good league victories.

It was community day at Dial hill as the 1st teams hosted Downend in front of large home crowd.

Downend batted first and scored 237-8 from their full, 40 over innings.

The best bowling figures for Clevedon came from Tyler Leaman who posted 4-45 from his nine overs whilst Iraq Thomas took 2-11 and Matt Carpenter 2-34.

In reply Clevedon got off to a slow start and were in deep trouble at 55-6 in the 17th over with a number of batters out for single digits.

Will Plummer then came into score 31 and Matt Carpenter hit a team-high 42 runs off 43 balls but it wouldn’t be enough as wickets continued to fall around them and Clevedon were bowled out for 148 runs and the 89 run loss in the 33rd over.

Clevedon’s 2nd XI travelled to Winterbourne on Saturday and Clevedon batted first, scoring 214-7 with Will Carpenter leading the way, scoring 80 runs off 86 deliveries which included 13 fours.

There were other contributions from Archie Birkbeck, 26 runs, Josh Jenkins, 20 runs, Jake Brand, 14 not out, Jack Davey, 12, Dan Van Grudgings, 11, and Harry Fear and Jacob Ward both added 10 to reach Clevedon’s 214 total.

In reply Winterbourne were 110 all out as Jacob Lillington led the way for the bowlers, taking 4-21 from eight overs.

Jake Brand and Abin Roy both added to wickets each whilst Jacob Ward and Jack Davey also got a wicket to take Clevedon to the 104-run win.

Finally, there was a fantastic effort by the Clevedon youngsters in the 3rd XI yesterday as they recorded their first win of the season by beating Easton Cowfolk by seven wickets.

Easton Cowfolk batted first and scored 215-5 with Joe Finch taking 2-27, Abin Roy 1-20, and Charlie Lamprell 1–39.

In reply Clevedon reached their target in the 30th over as Ali Balcombe’s 97 off 54 balls and Archie Miller’s 61 off 70 balls took them to team to 139 before the first wicket.

Charlie Lamprell then came into score 20 not out, Cam Jenkins 16, and Joe Finch nine as Clevedon 3rd XI posted their first league win of the season.
