Clevedon CC’s suffered a heart breaking defeat against Midsomer Norton this weekend as they were bowled out for 104, just one shy of the needed 105 runs despite having 11 overs still to play.
Clevedon’s started the game bowling and toppled the visiting Norton for a very get-able 105 runs after 34.1 overs.
Jack Banks led the way with his 5-35 from 10 overs, Matthew Carpenter added four, and Mark Bibbing took the other wicket.
The home side then came into bat and openers Louie Woodlands and Sean Dickson didn’t last long, hitting single digits before returning to the clubhouse.
Bayley Wiggins and Nick Carpenter replaced them and took time building a 73-run partnership to bring their team back into the game, until Wiggins was dismissed for 37 as Clevedon were looking good at 86-3.
What followed though was a collapse of calamitous magnitude as the next five batsmen all fell for one run or less taking them to 101-8.
Carpenter was then run out on 35, leaving Clevedon at 102-9 with 12.5 overs remaining and just four runs needed.
However, Clevedon fell to 104-10 just nine balls later and handed themselves a one run loss in a game they really could have won.
They now go on to Wellington at home on Saturday June 1st.
