Clevedon Cricket Club’s 1st team travelled down the road to play Weston-super-Mare on Friday and picked up a good seven wicket win after rain interrupted play.

Clevedon won the toss and decided to bowl first, and captain Matty Carps got his line and length immediately to dismiss Weston-super-Mares Rob Turner for a duck through a Will Plummer catch from behind.

After that Weston-super-Mare struggled to get going as Clevedon bowled the squad out for 156.

Matty Carps’ spell was the pick of the bunch for Clevedon as he took five wickets for 23 runs whilst Clevedon wicketkeeper William Plummer took five catches.

Jack Banks also bowled well and took three wickets for 37 runs and Tyler Leaman took two for 29.

In reply Clevedon were 19 - 0 when a thunderstorm broached the Weston air and the players had to leave the pitch.

When play resumed Clevedon’s target was reduced to 125 off 34 overs.

Tyler Leaman scored 41, Louie Woodland 31, and Bayley Wiggins hit 34 not out.

After Leaman’s dismissal it was left to former club captain John Bachelor to score the winning runs as Clevedon won by seven wickets with 8.2 overs to spare.
