Yatton’s U16s made it a fairy-tale end to a decade of junior football by lifting the Bristol Saturday Youth League Plate Cup.
Goals from Jamie King, Remi Dobrowolski and Louie Eaton were enough to clinch a 3-1 win over a very good Hutton team at Nailsea & Tickenham FC’s Fryth Way stadium.
Eaton’s clincher was a goal worthy of winning any final, with the commanding centre back finishing off a slick six-man move started by left back Zander Harding.
There were emotional scenes on the final whistle as the boys celebrated and there were tears in the stands too as proud friends and family shared the lads’ special moment.
But Yatton didn’t have it all their way in the game.
Hutton’s front three of Finley Rowe, Charlie Brookes and Lincoln Skidmore caused problems for Yatton throughout the tense encounter.
In a nervy last five or six minutes, Hutton pushed hard, forcing corners and pinging shots at Joshy Harris’ goal, but as has been a feature of the season whoever wears the gloves, they just couldn’t find a way through.
Hutton’s Taren Heycock almost made it 3-2 but Harris pulled off a terrific save, somehow diving away to his left to flick the ball away for a corner.
Boss Simon Tarr started the biggest game in the team’ history with Kyle Jackson starting between the sticks and Stan Derrick, Jamie Taylor, skipper Alex Hadwin and Thay Bissett at the back.
Louie Eaton, Rory McGonigal, Remi Dobrowolski were in midfield and George Hooper, Jamie King, and league top scorer Kieran Tarr up top.
Hutton started stronger and looked a threat from long balls and corners.
Jamie King started to dominate in midfield and held the ball up and Hooper and Tarr started to run wild down the flanks.
Hooper had a decent effort and Tarr had a couple of chances but the Hutton keeper was up to the challenge.
And it was King who opened the scoring, making the most of a defensive error before showing he was the coolest man in Fryth Way by slotting the ball home with ease.
But Hutton weren’t going to lie down and Harry Hancock fired a looping shot into the net to make it 1-1 with the assist coming from Finley Rowe.
At half-time Harris came on in goal for Kyle Jackson and Danny Worlock came on in centre midfield while Jamie Osmond gave Hooper a rest.
Early in the second half Yatton’s class was a bit too much for Hutton.
Yatton’s midfield began to control the game and Dobrowolski’s left foot strike made it 2-1.
It wasn’t long before Zander Harding started the move for number three, a proper goal of the season contender.
First, he stepped in and won the ball and played a nice pass back to Hadwin who slipped it into midfield.
Within seconds the ball was out on the right wing, where Eaton collected a short pass, beat his man, and rifled home from the edge of the box.
With Jackson staying strong as a late sub at right back, Yatton were able to withstand late Hutton pressure to get over the line to lift the trophy in front of their adoring fans.
