Portishead Town Football Club have confirmed themselves as the Toolstation Western League Division One champions after an 8-0 win against Gillingham Town on Saturday.
The Posset travelled to Gillingham knowing that a win would put them out of reach of their closest rivals Radstock Town with three games still to play, and a thumping 8-0 victory meant they did just that.
A hat-trick for midfielder Kyle Egan, braces from both Ethan Feltham and Callum Townsend, and a goal in the 5th minute for Jack Harper completed the goal fest for the title winning side.
A red card for Gillingham in the 40th minute did not help the home side who were already 5-0 down at this point, and Posset didn’t let up on their attack adding three more before the final whistle.
It was the 51st and 52nd goal of the season for striker Feltham, he has already broken his club’s single season goal scoring record and has recorded 44% of his team’s 117 goals in the 2023/24 league campaign.
Portishead are confirmed league champions and now have the chance of becoming 100-point centurions as they sit on 93 points with three games still to play.
There’s also the chance to break the 100-goal difference mark, something they will certainly see as a possibility after their recent 8 goal victory.
Portishead are next in action against Cribbs Reserves away on Monday night, kick off 7:45pm.
