Counties 1 Tribute Western North: Clifton II 31-31 Nailsea & Backwell
To kick off 2024 at Nailsea & Backwell RFC, the first team had to fight back in the second half to earn a draw away from home at the weekend.
Their match against Clifton RFC Seconds ended 31-31 after two exciting halves of rugby which entertained the home crowd.
The first half was dominated by Clifton as they ran in three tries to one and led 19-7 at the break.
However, in the second period, Nailsea & Backwell fought back and ran in 22 points to earn themselves a draw.
Tries for the visitors came from Richard Palmer with two, and Cory Love, Luke Sharp, and Jamie Sullivan with one each. While Sam Chidzey nailed three conversions.
The result leaves Nailsea & Backwell in second place in the Counties 1 Tribute Western North league table, just one point behind leaders Longlevens.
Up next for Nailsea & Backwell is a home match against local rivals Clevedon RFC on Saturday, January 13.
A big crowd is expected for this match as second takes on seventh in the table, but of course the rivalry means much more than that to the two sides.
