Clevedon produced a valiant performance but were beaten 2-1 by Westberries Fourths in the West Women's Brunel Division 2 last Saturday.
The visitors showed why they have a 100 per cent record so far this season with neat approach work, Clevedon, however, repelled the attacks Lauren Bird, cool and composed in defence, along with Sophie Bowen, helped themselves back into the game.
A long corner for Clevedon saw Beth Barzotelli push the ball forward and was met by Bird who crossed to Vicky Ford, she controlled the ball and expertly fired home to give the hosts the lead.
But Westberries fought back and capitalised on a defensive misunderstanding to equalise. Clevedon fought well Ella Davey surging forward from midfield with Lilly Cogan impressing on the left flank. Westberries, however, took the lead in the dying seconds of the half.
After the break Clevedon searched for an equaliser and worked hard to contain their opponents, Barzotelli used her skill to create chances, one shot going just wide and another saved as she was surrounded by defenders.
The game was on a knife edge, Lucy Pope urging Clevedon forward, Hannah Becker worked hard and Davey and Barzotelli was always there but sadly time ran out as Westberries clinched all three points.
Clevedon travel to Wick at 1:30pm this Saturday.
