Nailsea Ladies will be disappointed with their performance after they were held to a 2-2 draw with Keynsham Seconds in their latest Brunel 1 encounter last Saturday.
Nailsea started well with an early attack and within four minutes forced a penalty corner which was trapped at the top of the D by Cath Hole and was fired home by Bernie Forge.
Keynsham reacted immediately putting the home side under pressure. With some good linking moves Keynsham cut through the defence and a slipped ball from the left was slotted home from in front of goal just on the 10 minute mark. A copycat move two minutes later saw Keynsham gab a second from the left post.
Despite good forward play out of defence on both flanks by Lily Bartle-Jenkins and Charlie Bembridge Nailsea repeatedly failed to retain possession, giving the ball away cheaply. Another long ball from Keynsham saw a lone attacker running on with an open chance to score, but goalkeeper Katie Matthews came forward with a strong kick to dispatch the threat long and clear.
On the attack Nailsea looked strong and worked the ball around well but Keynsham continued to use the long ball to clear their defences. Another chance for Keynsham with an attacker one-on-one with Matthews but, despite a slight fumble, this gave her enough to deflect the ball wide.
Nailsea, on the attack again, had a great effort by Hannah Lacey which took her to the backline, finding Hole ready to strike only to see it deflected wide. Keeping the ball in the Keynsham half and with good midfield play by Lois Pinkney and Eleanor Hobbs,
Nailsea created openings but were unable to break through until another run by player of the match, Lacey found Hole, who carved out a second goal to level the scores.
The good second half opening for Nailsea, with an early chance falling to Hole and denied by the woodwork. A Keynsham penalty corner saw their hard hitting shot taker bravely challenged and won by Amy Ashley. Despite good running by Ellie Holdaway and by Lucy Crimmonds Nailsea failed to add to their score and their best chance in the final minutes was wasted.
