Nailsea Hockey Club Ladies Firsts and Seconds both came away with victories by three-goal margins against Westberries and Mid Somerset Seconds respectively last Saturday.
At Westberries the game proved to be a typical game of two halves with Nailsea dominating the first with great passing and positioning whilst making full use of the pitch.
Determine play on the attack produced three classic goals, two edge of the D strikes from Cath Hole and a Bernie Forge, one handed diving reverse stick goal to round off the half.
Nailsea’s second half team performance was disappointing, with neither team able to score in the half.
A diving save from goalkeeper Katie Matthews and a goalline save by Zoe Pople kept Nailsea ahead to secure a 3-0 win.
Nailsea have two home games left against Keynsham and Weston-super-Mare.
Nailsea Seconds finished their season on a high, with a solid 5-2 win over Mid Somerset.
Nailsea started with a determined effort to attack and from a penalty corner, Maisy Hole’s first-time shot deflected into the advancing Ali Davis who cleanly converted on the 10 minute mark.
Mid Somerset gathered themselves and began to fight back with Nailsea goalkeeper Laura Waines-Pople forced into play, defender Charlie Bembridge overturned a shot heading for goal, sending the ball wide where it was moved to safety by solid combined play between Niamh Brodrick and Ella Brierley.
Nailsea's Gee Corner and Daisy Bartle-Jenkins moved the ball through midfield, finding Danni Marks who, after dodging the defence, found Helen Harrington inside the D and ready to strike home. The visitors replied pulling a goal back when Waines-Pople made a fine save but was beaten by the rebound.
With the score at 2-1, both teams had everything to pay for, but Nailsea went 3-1 up when the ball came out to the edge of the D to Hole who fired low and hard into the far corner.
Another penalty corner involved a triple effort with Hole, Davis and Corner giving the defenders the run around before Corner securely fired home.
Mid Somerset did manage a second in the dying minutes before Hole was on target for her second when she fired another penalty corner shot which was deflected high and wide over the bar to mark a great result to finish the season.
