North Somerset Athletics took time to pause and reflect on a successful 2022 recently.
The AAA Grade 1, which is in the top 2.5 per cent in the UK, saw awards given out to George L – Shot Ben C – 800m and 1500m, Martha H – 100m, Layla S – Discus, Keira D – 800m , Ellie W – 5000m and Holly B – Shot.
There were three best performances at Avon County Championships with Martha H, for 100m, and Oscar W in both 75m and 150m.
There was 63 NSAC records across the year and Athlete of the Match Awards in the Avon League, won by both Holly B (shot) and Martha H (100m).
Altogether seven athletes were selected for English Schools - George L – Shot, Phill C – Hammer, Holly B – Shot, Keira D – 800m, Sam H – 800m, Ben C – 1500m and Rosa F – Triple Jump.
The club had 10 athletes in the top 20 in the UK rankings including Ellie W, in under-23 women’s 5000m, and Chris M, in M55 100m, as number one.
Number two was Martha H, under-13 girls 100m and third George L, in under-17s mens shot.
Lyla S under-13s, in girls discuss, is fifth followed by Keira D under-17s women’s 800m in eighth.
Holly B finished 11th and 12th for under-15s shot and discuss respectively.
Phill C, in under-15s hammer and Ben C, in under-15s 3000m, were both ranked 13th.
Edward S and Blythe M claimed the under-11s boys and under-11s girls award.
The under-13s boys and girls accolade were claimed by Ewan H and Amelia H.
Adam D and Pippa H picked up under-15s boys and girls awards with Samuel H and Kiera D claiming the under-17s honours.
In seniors Joe Gentry and Ellie Wallace took home the trophy while Heldi M claimed the endurance development and Reuben W won the coach’s endurance.
Ben C won the endurance award, Ruby D the vertical jumps honour, followed by Hebe H in horizontal jumps.
George L won throws, Martha H claimed speed development, Izzy T in speed, Conor H in combined events and Ellie S won the ambassador award.
There was a special award given out to the under-13s endurance squad of Felix A, James B, Leo D, Oliver F & Euan M for an outstanding season in the Cross-Country, and on the road.
They picked up Bronze for the Midland Road Relay Championships, National Road Relay Championships and National Cross Country Championships and Gold in both South West X Country Championships and the Gwent League.
There was International recognition for Wallace after she was not only selected to run for England over 5k but won the event.
