Nailsea Ladies seconds fell to a 5-2 defeat against the well-structured West Women's Brunel Division 2 table leaders Clifton Robinsons Fifths last Saturday.
Nailsea made a strong start and were rewarded when Gee Corner’s shot slammed into the back of the net.
The lead was very fleeting as four minutes later Clifton equalised.
Despite a couple of great saves by goalkeeper Chloe Taylor and solid defensive play by Ella Brierley, Helen Harrington and Lizzy Williams, Clifton added two more goals to go into half-time 3-1 ahead.
Nailsea went into the second half with renewed determination but Clifton kept up the pressure, overloading their attack at every opportunity, to slot in number four.
Nailsea were not without their chances, however, and from a solidly struck penalty corner by Corner at the top of the D was nudged over the line by Paige Richardson.
Nailsea’s commitment, team work and support kept them at a goal each, but within minutes from the final whistle Clifton grabbed their fifth to record their fifth successive win
Nailsea return to action this Saturday at Mid Somerset.
