Weston Ladies needed a last minute equaliser from Aimee Grimes to rescue a point in a thrilling 2-2 draw with Nailsea at Priory School on Saturday.
It was Weston that got the first goal of the game when after receiving a pass, Phoebe Hughes slotted home a lovely shot on the reverse.
Goalkeeper Lucy Smale and the defence of Jo Withers, Bayley Farrow, Orla Crabb and Shelly Parkins all worked hard to stop Nailsea finding an equaliser before half-time.
With fantastic support from the rotating midfield of Tori Leeks, Clare Dale, Emily Vickery, Hughes and Zoe Bacon who all did a lot of tireless running to support at both ends of the pitch.
Not long into the second half Nailsea found their equaliser when fast ball into the D saw Bernie Forge’s effort took a deflection off Farrows which left Smale with very little chance of a save.
Nailsea’s second came shortly after, when a short lack of focus from Weston saw them awarded a short corner and Zoe Poole’s effort took a deflection off Crabb’s stick.
The game continued in a similar fashion to the first half with strong periods of possession for both teams with everyone continuing to push for a goal with Eva Ferdinando, Maddie Welsh and Amy Green all coming close to an equaliser.
And In the last minute of the game, Weston, who didn’t give up and great transfer around the back by the defence, saw a ball fly up the line to Grimes.
She took it around a Nailsea defender and smashed it into the bottom corner past the diving goalkeeper for an equaliser.
