Nailsea Ladies seconds opened their Brunel 2 season with six of the best in a 6-2 win Avonmouth.
It did not take long for Nailsea to show their determination, skill and above all great team spirit.
There were excellent debut appearances for Megan Richardson and Daisy Bartle-Jenkins, both of whom have come through the club’s youth system.
Their confidence and control surprising against a strong and experienced opposition.
An early goal by Laurie Dewer, following some good play around the D, gave the visitors a boost and a lead.
And Nailsea managed to hold onto through solid defensive play from Lilly Bartle-Jenkins, Ella Brierley, Sarah Richardson and Helen Harrington with goalkeeper Elmarie Cairns clearing anything which crept through.
A penalty corner gave Avonmouth a break through and a tap over the line brought them level.
The positivity at half-time saw Nailsea straight into the attack with Ellie Holdaway and Lizzy Williams cutting through the Avonmouth defence.
Endless running and great use of the width by both Ellie Richardson and Paige Richardson gave Nailsea chance to apply pressure on the defence.
This pressure forced a penalty corner and a second goal, this time from Maisy Hole, playing in her first game since February.
Megan Richardson found herself in a great position to add a third but the keeper managed to tip this wide.
Minutes later Avonmouth again drew level from yet another penalty corner and they followed this with a flurry of attacks.
Solid organisation of defence by Helen Harrington saw Nailsea through this whilst midfield pair Ellie Richardson and Paige Richardson turned the tables giving Nailsea opportunity to attack and a flurry of goals followed.
A couple more from Dewer gave her a hat-trick, and one each for Ellie Holdaway and Daisy Bartle-Jenkins, bringing the total to a deserved half dozen.
Bartle-Jenkins topped her debut and first goal by adding Player of the Match.
