Weston ladies put in a dominant second half display against local neighbours Nailsea to come away with a 6-2 win at Priory School on Saturday.
In their second pre-season friendly, Weston held their club day and welcomed juniors and new parents to train.
Despite the buzz from the crowd watching on it was Nailsea who started the strongest and they made the most of their bright start after five minutes when Harriet Green ball put the ball past goalkeeper Lucy Smale.
Weston slowly grew into the game and found themselves awarded a short corner which captain Aimee Grimes slotted home.
The match settled into a fairly even contest with both teams going close often, but the Weston defence of Jo Withers, Bayley Farrow and Emily Vickers held strong for the remainder of the first half.
The second half started with Weston looking the more dominant and the midfield of Aga Maciejczyk, Georgia Dale, Clare Dale and Amy Green managed to control the game and often found forwards Maddie Welsh, Grace Clifford and Eva Ferdinando in plenty of space to drive at goal.
Clifford eventually made the most of her opportunities with two goals to put Weston 3-1 up.
Both teams then settled into the second half and after some good defending from Tori Leeks, Cherie Broadfield and Orla Crabb down the right saw Weston on the attack once again.
This allowed Ieva Aucynaite to enter the Nailsea ‘D’ and hit the ball across goal, luckily for Weston, a deflection saw the ball enter the goal leaving Nailsea goalkeeper Katie Matthews stranded.
Weston now seemed in total control of this game and were pressing for more goals late on, but a lapse in concentration saw Nailsea quickly countered and saw Zoe Pople claw one back to make it 4-2.
Weston the kicked on again as the forwards maintained the pressure and were awarded another penalty corner, a clever routine saw debutant Emily Vickers free at the back post to coolly slot home her first for Weston.
Captain Grimes then rounded off the eight-goal thriller with a well-timed finish at the top of the D from another penalty corner.
