Jasmine Poole beat Tracy Sheppard to claim the Riviera Box Cup after producing a superb display in Torquay recently.

The 21-year-old boxer from North Somerset was one of six Downend Police ABC members to box at the nationwide tournament which was attended by over 60 boxing clubs from up and down the country.

There were some great successes for Downend Police ABC with three gold medal winners, one silver and two bronze.

Fellow Clevedon boxer Gio Davino was outpointed in one of the fights of the tournament against Jammal Sesay from Peckham ABC.

In a hard fought encounter both boxers landed some heavy blows with Davino's roll, right hook combination proving particularly effective.

Unfortunately, Davino landed a few more point scoring shots to eventually win the bout.

Poole was up against an experienced opponent in Sheppard from Newdigate ABC.

In another classy performance Poole's skill level and power were evident from the start as she scored highly, landing a series of combinations.

Poole's jab was back to full power and effective at keeping her shorter opponent at bay. Both boxers demonstrated exactly why women's Boxing is such a fast growing sport, displaying skill, power and bravery along with extreme fitness in an entertaining fight from start to finish.

And it was Poole who won by a unanimous decision. Her skill and flamboyant boxing style also caught the eye of the tournament organisers who awarded Poole her first belt for best female boxer of the tournament.

As always Poole would like to thank Craig and Jo Turner and the team at Downend Police ABC and also local gym Ian Eisentrager and the members of Eisey's community gym for their constant support and for giving her the love of boxing as a junior.

Poole and Davino are looking forward to the England Boxing National Development Championships next month.
