Nailsea & Backwell Rugby Club colts have received shirt sponsorship for their August tour to South Africa.

NAILSEA & Backwell RFC are extremely grateful to Mr Arnie Palmer of Brunel Security, Bristol, for sponsoring the new playing shirts for the colts August tour to Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.

The colts will depart from Heathrow on August 1, arriving in Cape Town the following day. They will then undertake an eight-hour coach journey to Graaff Reinet, the fourth oldest town in South Africa, founded in 1786.

Matches have been arranged against Hoer Volkskool High School and Union High School, both in Graaff Reinet, with a visit to Port Elizabeth between matches.

After a rest day, the team will travel to Cradock to play Marlow Agricultural School, returning to Heathrow on August 9.

The colts have been fund-raising since last summer. Future events planned are serving themed lunches at the club for the Six Nations matches, running car boot sales, wedding bars, a mouse racing night and selling RFU draw tickets.

The colts, keen to act as ambassadors for North Somerset and Bristol, would be pleased to make contact with companies that have South African connections and who may be interested in sponsoring them on this tour.

GORDANO Under-16s dominated the match against Thornbury from the outset, with their superior pace and technical ability.

The home side were consistently slow to close down and indifferent tackling allowed Gordano to run in five tries before the interval, with winger Jamie Whitfield bagging a hat-trick.

The second half was a closer contest, but Sharks were always in control of a game which was ended early following an injury.

Try scorers: Jamie Whitfield (3), Josh Adams (2), James Grindle, Noah Holmes-Mcadam. Conversions: Alex Walder (4).
