Nailsea & Backwell Under-12s got back to winning ways with victory at a combined St Brendan’s and Lockleaze team.

Nailsea and Backwell Under-12s played a combined St Brendan’s and Lockleaze team away and got back to winning ways.

The game started with some searching kicks into Ravens territory which were dealt with and turned into solid attacking platforms. The first game was won by Nailsea and Backwell six tries to nil.

The St Brendan’s team came out fighting in the second game and kept the ball in hand and tried to wear the N&B defence down, but the Raven’s remained disciplined and managed to retain their shape and repelled all attempts, winning the second game 4-0.

This was a great team effort where a lot of training came together and is a good way to finish prior to Christmas.

Tries were scored by Luke, Alfie George W, George B, Ben and Sonny. Man of the match was Alex in his first competitive game after returning to rugby.

Looking to build on the second half improvement from a fortnight ago, Yatton Under-15s travelled to Clevedon and from the first whistle looked to play good attacking rugby.

The tackling was aggressive, the scrum was solid and the rucking effective as they looked to move the ball wide to give themselves opportunities to score.

Clevedon were equally organised and it was the best part of 12 minutes before the home side crashed through for a try. A couple more followed for the hosts, but Yatton continued to give a great account of themselves.

They were unfortunate not to score before the break. A lovely turnover and some great hands allowed the ball to go wide and winger Caleb Clarke was stopped just short of the line.

A penalty followed but Yatton could not make it count with a turnover, allowing Clevedon to counter and despite an outstanding tackle form Josh Moss, they crossed between the posts to finish the half 24-0 up.

Having lost prop Joe Galey to suspected concussion just before the break, Yatton had to reorganise but what followed was a poor reflection of the team and the opposite of the first half.

A number of missed tackles and the collective effort of the team was fragmented and frustrated by their hosts. Little niggles became bigger issues as Yatton leaked a number of tries and backchat meant that penalties were reversed.

There were some great performances from the likes of Toby Manson and Tom Ballard and the improvement in the scrum-half performance of Cammie Waites was huge, but the end result was a disappointment with Clevedon winning 59-0.
