Seven Clevedon Swimming Club members have been accepted onto Swim England South West’s young volunteer programme for 2020.

Max Patterson, Chloe Price, Bertie Williams, Caitlin Mark, Toby Foster, Addy Ledward and Ryan Baldwin successfully applied for the new programme which is designed to give young volunteers the chance to develop the necessary experience to volunteer at a national event.

The programme runs until the end of July 2020 and is aimed at 15 to 25-year-old volunteers currently swimming at club level. Each volunteer has committed to give 25 hours of their time which will be logged throughout the year with Swim England.

Ledward said: "I applied for the young volunteers programme because I had previously helped coach the younger swimmers when doing my Bronze D of E. I enjoyed it so much and I felt I really made a difference so I wanted to continue my coaching journey.

"I have a real passion for swimming with its health and social benefits to children and teenagers. I am hoping that being part of this program will help me share my passion with others and encourage younger swimmers."

Clevedon club volunteers can expect to be seen poolside supporting the team coaches in weekly training sessions, in addition to attending a variety of workshops on topics such as event organisation, judging & timekeeping and team manager training.

Volunteers will also have the opportunity to support key events in the region's swimming calendar including County and Regional Championships.

According to Swim England, the programme provides young people with the opportunity to meet other young volunteers, gain valuable experience and develop personal and aquatic skills.
