A group of 40 North Somerset AC athletes ranging from under-13 to senior men travelled to Parliament Hill, London for the National Cross-Cross Championships on Saturday.
Conditions underfoot on the undulating course were challenging with lots of mud and there were fields of over 400 runners in the junior events and over 2,000 in the senior events.
The highlight of the day came in the under-13 boys' race where Joe F continued his high standards with an excellent eighth place finish. He was backed up with outstanding runs by team mates Leo D 54th, Felix A 66th and James B 67th.
This gave the quartet a bronze medal - the first team medal North Somerset AC has won at the national event - to sit alongside their team gold at the South West Championships and bronze at the Midland and National road relays this season.
The under-20 men raced 10k around a gruelling course, which played into the hands of Matt Howard who used his triathlon strength to move through the field and finish a superb 17th, backed up by last week's Gwent League winner Sam Gentry in 37th place.
The quartet was completed by Will Cheek and Ollie Lock for an superb eighth place team finish.
Joe Gentry made his senior debut and posted an impressive 273rd place finish.
Alice B ran in the under-20 women’s race, finishing 62nd and with a further two years in this age group there can be even more improvements ahead.
Heidi M experienced her first national event as a first year in the under-13 age group and ran a great race for 87th place.
The under-15 boys had the largest contingent with a staggering 14 runners on the start line, with the quartet of Reuben W, Herbie C, Seb L and Logan H scoring for the team inside the top 160.
All the athletes that represented the club gave their all in testing conditions, special mention to both Pippa H and Callum Day who both lost shoes during the race, with Day having to complete 9k with a shoe missing.
