The Western Counties Floodlight Youth League held their Annual General Meeting at Wells City FC recently.
All 24 clubs were in attendance with the management committee and special guests from Somerset FA, who gave advice on safeguarding issues and player discipline.
The League has three divisions with teams across five counties with parent clubs in the Southern and
Western Leagues.
It was constituted to develop under-18 players to achieve progression to the reserve and first-team squads of their clubs.
The meeting heard that many clubs now regularly feature players who also play for the first team at Western League and Southern League level and a number of players have gone on to be signed by professional clubs.
Because that now happens on a regular basis, if two or more are in the first team squad when the Floodlight League side are scheduled to play – they can rearrange that match without penalty.
In the three divisions, Bristol Manor Farm picked up the Premier crown, the North Division was won by Bitton and the South claimed by Chard.
There were also three sides who claimed the sportsmanship prize with Mangotsfield United, Chipping Sodbury and Bishops Lydeard winning the Premier, North and South Division awards respectively.
Clevedon Town claimed the Roger Stone Memorial Cup after beating Paulton Rovers, for the fourth successive season, at Weston's Optima Stadium.
The league also confirmed there have been five new clubs admitted to the league, in the form of Axminster Town, AEK Boko, Hallen, Hengrove, and, Longwell Green with the 2022-23 season set to commence on August 29.
