NAILSEA Town Council has been given “Gold” status in The Local Council Award Scheme (LCAS).

The scheme is administered by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) to celebrate the achievements of the best parish and town councils while helping them reach their potential.

Nailsea Town Council is the first town council in North Somerset to achieve Quality Gold Status and one of only 55 councils in England to achieve the award.

Gold is the highest level a council can achieve in the scheme.

Councillor James Tonkin, chair of Nailsea Town Council, said: “I always knew our council met very high standards; I am pleased and proud that we have earned this confirmation from an important national body.”

The council said the award is a “valuable tool” for parish and town councils as it helps build confidence in stakeholders, assuring them that the council operates at a nationally recognised standard.

Jo Duffy, clerk of the council, said: “This has involved a lot of hard work and dedication from the officer team, but we would not have succeeded without the support of a great set of councillors who share the same ethos of high standards and hard work.

“This is a nice Christmas present for us!” she added.
