A "Community Engagement Week" has raised more than £23,000 for charities.

Butcombe Pubs & Inns hosted its first community week, which saw staff from various pubs across the region take part in a range of fundraising activities for local charities.

As part of the week, 30 staff from Butcombe’s headquarters and brewery in Wrington, near Bristol, embarked on a 20-mile hike across the Mendips for Cancer Research, raising over £6,000.

The Bower Inn in Bridgwater held a bingo and quiz evening for South West Children’s Hospice.

Meanwhile, The Bowl in Almondsbury organised a quiz night for the Brandon Trust.

The Lamb at Axbridge hosted a raffle for Axe Valley Men’s Shed, and The Ring O’Bells in Compton Martin raised more than £2,000 for the Harvey Hext Trust with a quiz night and auction.

The Rising Sun in Backwell also volunteered at St Peter’s Hospice and organised a charity car wash, cake sale, and raffle to raise funds for Backwell playing fields.

Butcombe Pubs & Inns' community week involved over 300 staff members, who collectively completed 1.5 million steps, 20 miles of swimming, and 50 dog walks.

They also cleaned 10 beaches, volunteered for 100 hours, prepared and donated 200 meals to those in need, and baked 1,000 cakes.

Jonathan Lawson, CEO of Liberation Group, said: "We’re absolutely delighted with the incredible work our teams have done, working with such a wide variety of charities and helping to support good causes in the communities we serve.

"It is vital that our pubs play their part at the heart of these neighbourhoods and our Community Engagement Week is just one way our teams can make a real difference by building meaningful and long-lasting relationships with local charities.

"It’s also lots of fun and a great way to meet the locals.

"Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make it such a huge success."
