Voluntary organisations, community groups, and sports clubs can now apply for funding to support projects that aim to increase residents' physical activity levels in North Somerset.
North Somerset Council has opened up applications for the first round of funding, which will close on January 31, 2025.
This funding initiative is part of the council's efforts to improve health and address health inequalities.
A total of £63,000 is available for community projects that align with the outcomes and actions of the Get Active physical activity strategy for North Somerset.
The funding is part of the second phase of the Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2021-2024 and is specifically set aside to boost the physical activity levels of North Somerset residents.
Through this strategy, North Somerset Council and its key stakeholders are committed to tackling health inequalities and making North Somerset a healthier place for all.
A significant aspect of this is ensuring that all residents and communities have opportunities to be physically active, whether through everyday activities or participation in formal sports and fitness groups and classes.
The council acknowledges various factors that can affect participation in physical activities, such as time, health, support, confidence, motivation, cost, facilities, transport, and knowledge of local opportunities.
The council aims to address these barriers through the funding available to local sports clubs, physical activity groups, voluntary clubs, and community organisations.
Councillor Jenna Ho-Marris, executive member for health, said: "We’re a council which empowers and cares about people.
"We want to help people have more years enjoying good health and wellbeing through participation in physical activity.
"If you’re part of a sports club, community or physical activity group, please look at our website and get in touch for more information.
"The grant money is there to support our local communities so please get your applications in."
