A POLICE officer has won an award for his bravery in dealing with “an unpredictable and dangerous incident” in Portishead in which a man had fatally injured his parent during a psychotic episode.

PC Max Fulcher who was awarded a Chief Constable Commendation at Avon and Somerset Police recent awards ceremony.

The award recognises the officer's bravery, excellent communication skills, and swift action while responding to an unpredictable and dangerous incident in Portishead in June 2023, where a man had fatally injured his parent during a psychotic episode.

PC Fulcher was first on scene and was able to communicate effectively with the offender, which led to his quick restraint and arrest.

This meant PC Fulcher and a colleague could work together as a team and attempt vital life-sustaining treatment on the victim.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “It goes without saying that PC Fulcher went above and beyond, demonstrating exceptional courage, resilience and the ability to think quickly and clearly while under pressure.

“It's a tough job being a police officer most days, but incidents like these are especially challenging for our colleagues on the front line.”

He said: “I feel honoured to have received the award and my family and close friends are also very proud.

"However, I can’t take all the credit; on that day my team all came together and helped in a variety of ways in a very stressful situation.

“It’s fantastic to see my fellow officers and staff being recognised for their hard work and bravery.”
