Events celebrating breastfeeding have been held at various venues across North Somerset.

The North Somerset Council Healthy Early Years team organised the events last month at Nailsea Library, Coates House in Nailsea, the Note Warehouse in Yatton, and Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm in Wraxall.

These venues, part of the North Somerset Breastfeeding Welcome scheme, are known for supporting parents feeding their babies when out and about.

The aim of the celebrations was to provide a platform for new parents and their babies to meet the council’s infant feeding support workers and breastfeeding peer supporters, and to learn more about the support available to them.

Councillor Jenna Ho Marris, North Somerset Council's executive member for public health, said: "Thank you to our teams and volunteers for organising these wonderful events, and of course to the host venues and everyone who came along."

"We’re a council that cares about people and we’re committed to helping North Somerset children enjoy the best possible start to life.

"Access to high quality infant and breastfeeding support plays a huge part in this."

She also highlighted the various support avenues available to parents in North Somerset, including weekly groups, Facebook support groups, and health professional consultations.

The last event in Wraxall witnessed the participation of more than 20 families, with Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm offering attendees free entry to the attraction.

Rhian Gunstone, brand and engagement manager for Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, added: "We understand how important it is for new parents to feel supported and included in their communities.

"By hosting events like this, we hope to inspire confidence in parents, providing them with a safe space to enjoy their time with their little ones and create special memories.

"It's part of our commitment to be a zoo that truly welcomes and inspires everyone who visits."
