Portishead's Remembrance Day Parade and Service will mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

It will take place at St Peter's Church on Sunday, November 10.

Local WWII veteran Arthur Oborne will join the community in paying respects.

The parade will begin assembling at the High Street at 10.15am, with the Act of Remembrance starting at 10.45am.

A two-minute silence will be observed at 11am, before the parade proceeds down the High Street at 11.05am.

Organisers have requested residents and visitors to avoid parking on the High Street and the parade route during this time.

The parade route will travel via the High Street, and spectators are encouraged to watch along the route.

Road closures will be in place from 9.45am to 12.15pm on Portishead High Street - between Church Road South and Combe Road - Stoke Road, and Church Road South.

Limited access to the High Street will be available from Brampton Way and Church Road North, with diversions via St Peter's Road, Slade Road, and Combe Avenue.

Vehicles not moved by 9.45am will be unable to leave until roads reopen at 12.15pm.

In a bid to ensure a smooth parade, a vehicle will follow at a safe distance to collect veterans from the saluting dais and transport them to the church.

The vehicle will also create a clear end to the parade, following issues in previous years caused by parents closely following their children.

Parents are encouraged to give children space to march proudly past the dais.

A short interdenominational service will also be held at Waitrose Plaza on Monday, November 11, at 10.45am, followed by a two-minute silence at 11am.

A spokesperson said: "We appreciate your cooperation in making this year’s Remembrance parade a respectful and memorable occasion for all".
