An energy expo is coming to Somerset Hall in Portishead this November.
The event, titled Portishead's Energy Expo: Empowering Homes and Inspiring Change, will take place on November 2, from 11am to 3pm.
Organised by the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) and Portishead Town Council, the expo will provide inspiration and practical advice for homeowners and families.
There will be various highlights at the event, including advice on home maintenance, tips on preserving and maintaining traditional homes, and success stories from locals about energy efficiency improvements.
Attendees will also have the chance to meet local installers and support North Somerset businesses.
For children, there will be games and activities, including making a draught-proofing snake.
There will also be bookable events throughout the day.
At 11.45am, the CSE will provide a quick introduction to the basics of home improvements.
There will also be a free draw, with the chance to win a Home Energy Survey worth £600.
At 12.45pm, Chris Sperring MBE will give a talk about local wildlife, and at 1.45pm, there will be an interactive session with Sherlock Homes: House Detectives, exploring home energy survey discoveries.
Prizes and goodies will be given to participants.
Steven Cole from the CSE said: "We know one-size-fits-all home improvement measures don’t work for the variety of homes we have in the UK.
"Old buildings often have leaky gutters, draughty windows, and mouldy, wet walls.
"When people leap ahead with modern insulation, trying to do the right thing, they often exacerbate the moisture issues in these old homes.
"The Portishead Energy Expo is our way of supporting the local community to learn more about their homes, improve their energy efficiency, and preserve their traditional charm through workshops, activities, and games."
The South West Net Zero Hub, hosted by the West of England Combined Authority through the Local Energy Advice Demonstrator Programme, has funded this event.
As part of the project, homeowners in North Somerset are being offered a £250 voucher off a home energy survey (Retrofit Opportunities Plan), worth £600, from Chapter 2 Architects.
This survey will help homeowners understand the range of energy efficiency options suitable for their home.
