RESIDENTS, loved ones, friends and staff members at Cadbury Hall recently celebrated Mexican Independence Day, with their own Mexican Fiesta.
The occasion was also marked with Mexican decorations, outfits and food which helped everyone at the home get into the spirit of the festival.
The residents also learned about the history of Mexican Independence Day and the traditions associated.
Miguel Hidalgo gathered the people of Dolores Hidalgo by ringing the bells of the central church in the early morning of Sept. 16, 1810.
The mass turned into a speech by the parish priest in which he proclaimed the independence of his people, calling for a fight and giving "El Grito de Independencia"
In Mexico, Mexican Independence Day is a huge celebration (or fiesta) often with upbeat music, mass dancing, vivid colours and tasty food.
Hannah Lewis, activities coordinator at Cadbury Hall, said: “It was wonderful seeing residents, staff, family and friends get involved with our Mexican Fiesta.
"We learned lots about the meanings behind the traditions and enjoyed music, food and dance – and of course, party games.
"It was a wonderful afternoon and a brilliant way for our residents to experience a fiesta in the comfort of our lounge.”
One resident commented on the celebrations, saying: “It was really nice to learn about and celebrate a festival from another country.
"Also, the party games and dancing were really fun as well.”
Audrene Abrigo, General Manager at Cadbury said: “It’s been fun. The colours, the knowledge and being able to celebrate another culture in our home has been great.
"We aim to introduce more culture to the to showcase the multicultural society we live in.”
