FOLLOWING the impactful visit of the Knife Angel to Weston-super-Mare in May, the North Somerset Violence Reduction Partnership and Portishead Town Council are hosting a community engagement event on Saturday, October 5 from 9am to 1pm.
The event will take place at Portishead Town Football Club and promises a day full of important community interactions and family fun.
This event is an opportunity for the community to engage with vital local services.
Representatives from the North Somerset Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP), North Somerset Community Response, Avon Fire and Rescue (with their fire truck), Portishead RNLI, Portishead Police Beat Team, Police bike marking, Portishead Youth and Community Centre, and South West Ambulance will all be on hand to provide information and support.
The event will also feature a wide range of activities, including football darts, face painting, arts and crafts, and a special appearance by FIDO the fire dog.
Families are encouraged to come out and enjoy the activities, with food and drinks available to purchase.
Councillor James Clayton, North Somerset Council's executive member for safety in the community, expressed his enthusiasm for the event: "Although Knife Angel left us at the end of May, its visit has had a lasting impact.
“I'm very pleased that this rescheduled engagement event is happening at Portishead Football Club on Saturday, October 5.
This event gives the local community the chance to speak with representatives from a variety of agencies – including our North Somerset Violence Reduction Partnership and our Community Safety team.
There's also lots of other activities on offer to help engage with young people and families.
This engagement event is another great example of our commitment to working with partners to raise awareness of knife crime, educate young people and local communities, and offer support to those who need it."
