A fun-filled community engagement day is coming to Portishead Town Football Club on October 5.

The event, organised by the North Somerset Violence Reduction Partnership and Portishead Town Council, will run from 9am to 1pm.

It aims to bring the community together for important interactions and family-friendly activities.

Following the visit of the Knife Angel to Weston-super-Mare in May, the event will provide an opportunity for residents to engage with crucial local services.

Representatives from the North Somerset Violence Reduction Partnership, North Somerset Community Response, Avon Fire and Rescue, Portishead RNLI, Portishead Police Beat Team, Portishead Youth and Community Centre, and South West Ambulance will be present to offer information and support.

Attendees can also look forward to a variety of activities, including football darts, face painting, arts and crafts, and a special appearance by FIDO the fire dog.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase, making it a day out for the entire family.

Councillor James Clayton, North Somerset Council’s executive member for safety in the community, said: "Although Knife Angel left us at the end of May, its visit has had a lasting impact.

"I’m very pleased that this rescheduled engagement event is happening at Portishead Football Club on Saturday 5 October.

"This event gives the local community the chance to speak with representatives from a variety of agencies – including our North Somerset Violence Reduction Partnership and our Community Safety team.

"There’s also lots of other activities on offer to help engage with young people and families.

"This engagement event is another great example of our commitment to working with partners to raise awareness of knife crime, educate young people and local communities, and offer support to those who need it."

Portishead Town councillor Alan George added: "This event in Portishead is a testament to the ongoing efforts to foster stronger community ties and raise awareness about critical issues like knife crime.

"It’s not just about the activities, though they promise to be great fun for families; it’s about the conversations and connections we can build.

"Together, we can continue to create a safer, more supportive environment for everyone in Portishead."
