A free work and money event offering support for anyone with concerns about finances, as well as career and training options, is coming to Weston-super-Mare.
North Somerset Council has organised the event to take place on Thursday, September 26, from 9.30am to 12.30pm at Friends Meeting House, BS23 1JF.
The family-friendly event is aimed at helping those affected by the benefit cap.
It will feature free refreshments, a raffle with prizes, and children's activities.
The event will provide wide-ranging support, from helping people find employment after a break to exploring training opportunities.
Assistance will also be available for those needing help with Universal Credit and other benefits.
Guidance will be given on identifying suitable career paths, training opportunities to upskill, navigating benefits, including Universal Credit, and available childcare support for work or training.
There will also be success stories shared and one-on-one support available.
Opportunity North Somerset (ONS) will be present to offer personalised support and referrals to employment and skills services.
ONS assists residents in overcoming barriers such as disability, mental health conditions, or digital exclusion.
Councillor Mark Canniford, North Somerset Council’s executive member for spatial planning, placemaking, and economy, said: "This event is a great opportunity for people in our community struggling with the benefit cap.
"We want to ensure that everyone has the chance to improve their financial situation, find a job, or receive the training they need to succeed.
"Our team is here to support every step of the way."
Councillor Catherine Gibbons, deputy leader of North Somerset Council and executive member for children’s services, families, and lifelong learning, added: "We want to work to make sure North Somerset’s families are supported and encourage lots of people to come along.
"This event will help with practical suggestions to manage concerns about finances."
