A free event in Weston-super-Mare will allow people in North Somerset to take control of their health in time for winter.
The Health Promotion Day, organised by North Somerset Council, will be held on Thursday, October 3, from 10am to 2pm at We Are Super Studios in The Sovereign.
The council's Better Health North Somerset team has arranged for more than 30 organisations to come together to provide free support and advice on a range of issues.
These include addiction support, help to stop smoking, mental health, housing advice, weight loss, healthy eating, physical activity, liver testing, diabetes testing, and sexual health.
Citizens Advice North Somerset, Sirona care & health, Talk Club, and Next Link Domestic Abuse Services are among the organisations participating, alongside the council's own teams for smokefree living, healthy lifestyles, housing, waste and recycling, community meals, and libraries.
This will be the second Health Promotion Day following the success of last year's inaugural event.
Councillor Jenna Ho Marris, North Somerset Council’s executive member for homes and health, said: "I’m delighted we’re hosting a second winter health day after the huge success of last year’s.
"Thank you to our Better Health North Somerset team and all our partner organisations who’ll be taking part, offering free advice and support to local people.
"The winter months can be bad for our health, especially for older people or those with long-term conditions.
"The colder weather can pose health risks and respiratory illnesses like the flu and covid circulate more.
"Many people find the reduced daylight hours can affect their mental health, and the longer, darker nights can make it feel harder to stay active.
"But there’s things we can all do to take control of our health and stay well this winter.
"This event is a fabulous opportunity to find out more about the free help and support you can access locally."
