A FOLLY with a Gothic revival tower in the North Somerset countryside could soon have a swimming pool in its walled garden.
The owners of Grade II listed Little Naish, located in the hills near Clapton-in-Gordano, are seeking planning permission for a 3.9m x 12m pool.
A statement submitted with the planning application said: “The proposed swimming pool and hardstanding will be sympathetically designed without detracting from the characteristics of the Grade II listed building and its surroundings.
“The top level of the proposed swimming pool and hardstanding is to be flush with the existing ground level, with modest build-up in ground level at the pool perimeter where required to suit the existing ground fall.
“The proposed swimming pool and hardstanding will be sympathetically designed without detracting from the characteristics of the Grade II listed building and its surroundings.
“The pool is to be situated in a very private location, surrounded by high stone walls and trees and shrubbery.”
The distinctive early Victorian house has a three-stage tower with a turret, parapets, and gargoyles.
It was once one of the many ancillary buildings in the grounds of Naish House, a 17th century manor which burnt down on Christmas Day 1902.
The house featured in the second episode of the third season of the BBC programme Restoration Home.
