Planning permission is being sought to expand a cemetery in Yatton.

Application 24/P/1690/NMA seeks permission to change the use of a neighboring farmers' field to be used as a cemetery at 47 Mendip Road Yatton.

Yatton Parish Council published a notice on its website that says the next phase of work on the new cemetery project is commencing on Monday 12th August. The first stage, which will take around three weeks is installing the driveway and car park.

The new expanded cememtry includes a new car park and driveway, with planting around the edge and beaches for reflection. This will be on the former farmers' land next to the cemetery.

The post reads: "Stage one involves the digging out, levelling work and kerbing and a base layer of stone being installed.  Due to health and safety the footpath that goes through the cemetery field off Mendip Road will be closed for approx three weeks.

"The allotments also have to be closed during the day while the work is going on but access will be allowed in the evenings and at weekends. All allotments holders have been informed.

"The contractor will be on site Monday - Friday from 8.00 am till 6.00 pm. We thank you very much for your patience while this essential community facility is being created and apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The application was submitted by Aleana Surname Baird from Yatton Parish Council. It also includes changing materials to build the driveway, which the council say will be 'harder wearing' and will not need to be replaced as sooner as the materials they originally planned to use.

The document will be reviewed by North Somerset Council planning officers before a decision to approve or refuse it is made.
