A VILLAGE secondary school and sixth form could soon get a new “state-of-the-art football facility”.
Backwell School wants to install the 3G artificial turf pitch on part of its school playing fields.
It said there was a demand for artificial pitches in the area and the new pitch could be used for club matches at evenings and weekends.
A statement submitted with the planning application to North Somerset Council said: “The proposed 3G artificial turf pitch will encourage more football activity; and the prime purpose of the school playing field will remain unaltered, facilitating curriculum activities, sports, and physical education; as well as community access.
“Once implemented; the development will be appropriate in its location and the proposed facility will improve the performance quality of sporting amenities at Backwell School.
“Importantly, enough playing field land will remain post-development to ensure that a flexible arrangement of grass pitches is maintained to suit the ongoing requirements for curriculum and community sport – summer and winter.”
The plans would also see a fence constructed around the pitch and lighting.
