NAILSEA Shedders has received national recognition from the UK Men's Sheds Association.

The announcement was made at the association's annual general meeting in Worcester on July 11.

Rob Lloyd, chairman of the UK Men's Sheds Association, presented the local charity with a blue plaque to acknowledge more than a decade in continuous operation, as long as the association has existed in the UK.

Upon receiving the accolade, Nailsea Shedders chairman, Mr Sparling, attributed the organisation's success to the "tremendous support" from their diverse and dedicated membership.

The primary aim of Nailsea Shedders is to combat social isolation in the community through shared tasks and musical collaboration.

The Nailsea Shedders group, based in Wraxall Village Hall, consists of a workshop team and a free-to-book, performing Ukulele band, UKeBox.

Operating on Tuesdays, the workshop squad repairs, recycles and repurposes items brought in by local residents and organisations.

Their repair skills range from toys to public benches.

The musical faction, UKeBox, offers entertainment at local events like the Farmers' Market or fundraisers for local charities and causes.

UKeBox band practice is held on Friday afternoons.

Despite a history spanning over 10 years within the community, Nailsea Shedders seeks to expand its membership and enhance its presence in Nailsea.
