Staff and residents at Cadbury Hall care home in Yatton have launched a monthly gardening club.
Head of maintenance, Paul Bennett, and activities coordinator, Paula James, devised the green-thumbed initiative so that everyone in the home can try their hand at potting, pruning and propagating.
The first gardening club meeting occurred this week.
Green-fingered residents and staff delightedly tinkered with colourful pots, borders, hanging baskets, and planted various seeds in the much-loved vegetable patch.
An added sensory experience was the opportunity for residents to touch and smell various plants to identify them.
Future plans to introduce herbs into the mix and utilise them within the home’s kitchen are being considered.
One resident expressed: "It would be good to eat a home-grown tomato next summer!"
Audrene Abrigo, general manager at Cadbury Hall said: "Our garden is a much loved space, residents really enjoy looking after the plants and flowers, watching them grow and change through the seasons.
"It is so lovely to be outside enjoying the garden, many of our flowers are coming into bloom now so we all had great fun creating our colourful pots and containers.
"It's also great to see our hard work bloom."
Resident Dorothy shared: "I've always loved gardening so it is fantastic to be able to keep that hobby going, I find it really therapeutic to be outside in the fresh air and to be able to grow my favourite flowers and shrubs."
Open to all, the club presently meets on the first Friday of every month.
The next meeting falls on August 2 at 2pm.
Interested individuals are advised to inform staff beforehand.
Cadbury Hall also welcomes any generous donations of seeds or plants to further enhance its gardens.
Managed by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK's largest care providers, Cadbury Hall continually strives to deliver high-quality care across its care homes and hospitals.
It provides various services such as nursing care, residential and respite care.
