THIS year’s edition of the Nailsea Skate Park Festival may have been the last to be run by the current organisers.

Phil Williams, head of the organising team, said that this was likely to be the last skatepark festival that he and the team would be running.

Nailsea Town Council said this year's event was a success.

The Millenium Park was transformed into a thriving hub of activity with a great range of activities including a bouncy castle, refreshment stalls, children’s and youth area, displays, and the very popular barbecue.

There were stands for Wellspring Counselling, Nailsea community trust, the Pump track project, and a great display of model aircraft.

The skatepark competitions consisted of rollerblading, BMX, skateboarding, and scootering.

DJ Sam played some great tunes on vinyl, and commentary came from the Scottish tones of Mr Neil Wylie.

They hope that this will provoke a new team to pick it up and bring a new feel to what has always been a very popular event. Please contact Phil Williams phil@christiansurfers.co.uk if you would like to look at taking this event on. Phil thanked all of the volunteers that gave their time freely, as well as everybody in the community that had come and supported these events.

He added a special note of thanks, to Nailsea Town Council and Nailsea Community Trust, in particular Holy Trinity Church and Trendlewood Church who have contributed so much over 21 years.

There was a very special visitor, James Threfall MBE, a professional skateboarder as well as a DJ on radio one. His first-ever skate competition was in Nailsea, where he came last in his first competition. He went away, practiced hard, and came back the next year and won. James skated with the crew and handed out all the prizes.

There was some fantastic action around the park and a special mention to our youngest competitor Ollie Pearce at the age of just five years old.

There were some great performances from all with in the older skateboard category with Anis Tebib winning over Jasper Houghton (who sadly suffered an injury) and Archie Davis.

In the 12 to 15 skateboard, Ellis Wright won, ahead of John Reid, and in the younger skate division, eight-year-old Teddy Woodgate won ahead of Oli King.

Turning to the scooter action in the older category 13 and above Alfie Lewis took the win ahead of Reece Sloan and Evan Patten, and in the younger category Max Trozzo took the win ahead of Jacob Lamb and Archie Powell. Mikey Nutt was the sole rollerblade and did a great job as did Ruaridh Wylie being the sole BMX rider.
