A team of 33 colleagues embarked on the Welsh Three Peaks challenge to fundraise for Weston Hospicecare.

The team, all employees at Alliance Homes, hiked the three highest peaks in Wales in just one day in a bid to raise money for the worthy cause.

The three peaks in question are Pen Y Fan, Cadair Idris and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).

The gruelling challenge saw them trek a total of 20.5 miles and climb a total of 7,510 feet, all in just 13 hours.

To make the feat even tougher, they battled wind speeds of 50mph on the two latter peaks.

The team had enlisted five colleagues as a support crew, who acted as drivers, ensuring the hikers could rest between each peak.

The hikers prepared for the challenge with early morning and weekend training sessions on the hills of North Somerset.

James Wotton, a gas engineer at Alliance Homes and team leader for the event, said: "It’s been such an amazing experience, from the training sessions to the team learning new skills and stepping out of their comfort zones.

"They were brilliant and pushed themselves beyond their limits even when it looked impossible to complete the challenge.

"We took on this challenge to remember lost friends who have recently benefited from Weston Hospicecare and the amazing work they do.

"It was the best day ever."

As of July 15, the team had raised £5,455, surpassing their initial target of £5,000.

The effort was all for Weston Hospicecare, a cause very close to their hearts.

Those funds will help the hospice to continue providing crucial care for patients with life-limiting illnesses and supporting their families.
