A ROAD closure in a North Somerset village has been extended by a week for 'emergency' works to take place.
Park Road, in Congresbury, was forced to close for 'urgent' works by Wales and West Utlities and scheduled to be closed for seven days from Thursday, June 27.
However, it has now been announced that the road will remain closed for a further seven days, until Thursday, July 11.
A spokesperson for North Somerset Council said: "The restriction is necessary because of emergency works undertaken by Wales & West Utilities for safety purposes & ease traffic while works are on B3133 Brinsea Road."
Although the exact nature of the work is unclear, it has been categorised as 'Utility Repair and Maintenance Works' by the council.
Although the footway will remain closed whilst the works continue, a pedestrian walkway will be provided.
As an alternative route, motorists are recommended to follow Park Road, Venus Street, and Brinsea Road.
