Portishead Town FC have a new community orchard courtesy of somerset based Thatchers cider.
Apples grown on the trees will be picked and donated to local charities in need of food donations, as well as being available to the football club for anything it can use them for.
The trees are a variety of both eating and cider apples and were planted free of charge by Nick White Landscaping next to the football club’s patio and clubhouse.
Portishead’s new orchard was donated by somerset cider company Thatchers as part of their Community Orchard Project, which aims to give away 500 trees to local communities across the UK during their 2024 planting season.
This is the fourth year that the fourth-generation cider maker has been running their Community Orchard Project, which only requires organisations to explain why planting trees would be beneficial for their communities in order to pay for their new orchards.
Cider maker Martin Thatcher said: “From a single apple tree to a community orchard, it can make such a difference to people’s well-being which is why we’re delighted to be donating these apple trees through our Community Orchard Project.”
