A NAILSEA restaurant has achieved an outstanding food hygiene rating.
Coates House, which describes itself as "your friendly, local, neighbourhood café bar in the heart of Nailsea", can be found on 91 High Street.
The business was visited by hygiene inspectors on March 14.
The premises achieved a 'very good' score in hygienic food handling and a 'good' score in cleanliness and condition of facilities and building and management of food safety.
Emma Lake, from the business, said: "When myself (Emma) and Terry took over in mid January, I don’t think we realised how unloved Coates House was with the last owners.
"We quickly realised that we needed to deep clean the front of house and back of house, which was one of the reasons we shut for several days after we completed on the sale.
"We would later find out that this was only the tip of the iceberg for Coates House.
"After meeting the staff for the first time they informed us of multiple issues, such as the dish washer and glass washer both being condemned, along with the ice machine.
"So we have invested heavily in new equipment: dish washer, glass washer, ice machine, service fridges, oven, six ring hob, two microwaves, and getting one oven fixed.
"We are continuing with investing in Coates House; changing the atmosphere, with new brickwork, a new log fire and decorating is being carried out by a local duo, Decor-Mates.
"We are thrilled that our efforts as a whole team are paying off and we know the staff are very happy and proud to achieve a 5 star rating."
A North Somerset Council spokesperson said: “We visited Coates House in Nailsea for a food safety inspection on March 14.
"The premise achieved a food hygiene rating of ‘5’ meaning ‘very good’ – congratulations to them for achieving a ‘high 5!’"
Coates House prides itself in catering for everyone.
The company's website reads: "Whether you're an early riser in search of a hearty breakfast or planning a leisurely dinner, Coates House caters to every palate.
"Our doors are wide open, welcoming walk-ins, your furry companions, and the whole family - because great moments are best shared.
"Our warm and friendly team are committed to ensuring your experience is nothing short of exceptional."
